Packet switching

• Packet switching is a special way of switching network nodes, which was specially created for the best transmission of computer traffic

What is switching?

• In telephone networks, subscribers' communication with each other is carried out by switching communication channels.

Serial and parallel transmission

Data transmission over the communication line can be arranged sequentially or in parallel.

Types of Client-Server architecture

• Single-level

In it, all application programs are distributed across workstations that access a database server or a file server. At the same time, the server does not execute application programs, only provides data.

Client-Server Architecture

• In this architecture, several client computers send requests and receive services from the server.

What is a peer-to-peer network?

• In a peer-to-peer network, all computers are equal: there is no hierarchy among computers and there is no dedicated server. As a rule, each computer functions both as a client and as a server; in other words, there is no separate computer responsible for the administration of the entire network. All users independently decide what can be made publicly available on their computer over the network and to whom.

How to establish a connection with a specific node in the network.

• Each node in a computer network has a unique identifier.  This ID (IP address) is used to establish a connection to it from other computers.

What is a network node?

• A node is a part of a computer network or a device connected to other participants (nodes) of this network. It can be either a computer or a special switch, router or hub.

How is the distribution of IP addresses on the Internet arranged?

• As you already know, all IP addresses on the Internet must be unique. Therefore, we need some kind of organization that will control the distribution of IP addresses.

The Gopher protocol.

• Gopher is a protocol for distributed search and transfer of application—level documents, which was widely distributed on the Internet until 1993. The protocol is intended to provide access to documents on the Internet, but has fewer features than HTTP, and was subsequently almost completely superseded by it.

Wireless sensor networks.

• Wireless sensor networks are distributed, self—organizing networks with multiple sensors and actuators that are interconnected using a radio

The RIP protocol. ☠️

• Routing Information Protocol (RIP) is a remote vector routing protocol. Routers operating through this protocol send all or part of their routing table to neighbors in a message for updating.

What is IPS?

• An intrusion prevention system (IPS - Intrusion prevention system) is a network security tool (can be a hardware device or software) that continuously monitors malicious activity on the network and takes measures to prevent it. In particular, it generates reports, blocks or disables malicious actions if they actually occur.

What is IDS?

• Intrusion Detection System (IDS) — intrusion detection system is a software product or device designed to detect unauthorized and malicious activity on a computer network or on a separate host.

What is IGMP Snooping?

The traditional mode of unicast transmission over the network does not meet modern data transmission requirements, because instead it increases the load on the network and significantly consumes network bandwidth. IGMP Snooping was developed to solve this problem.
