Hackers intentionally disable online services using DDoS attacks. This can affect companies of any size, causing irreparable consequences—loss of money, customers, and reputational damage. Cyberattacks can be especially devastating for online stores and media outlets. We explore how cybercriminals use virus-infected computers to attack online resources and how to protect against hackers in 2025.

How we repelled the attack
It all started when, on the morning of October 21st, we noticed unusually high activity on one of our client's websites. Thousands of search engine crawlers began accessing the interior design studio's website. This caused all websites hosted on the same server as the one being attacked to load slowly. It became clear that the attackers were masquerading as search engine crawlers—we were under a DDoS attack

What is a DDoS attack?
A DDoS attack is an attack by malicious actors aimed at disrupting a company's infrastructure and customer services. Attackers artificially create an avalanche of requests to an online resource to increase the load and disable it.

Hackers have changed their DDoS attack tactics.

Hackers reduced the duration of their attacks but increased other parameters: the average attack power in terms of capacity (Gbps) increased by 18%, repeating last year's record of 710 Gbps.

Differences between DDoS and DDOS attacks

The development of DDoS attacks was preceded by DOS: a simplified version of the attack that blocks user access to a resource by generating an excessive number of requests.

I want to share what I know about DDoS — what kind of attacks they are, what they are, how to prevent them and minimize the impact of such attacks on your service.

DDoS Amplification Tool

A distributed DDoS attack is carried out simultaneously from a large number of devices - attackers gain control over them and generate streams of garbage requests on command. Such an attack can cause a denial of service to the systems of a large company or network.
