What is IPS?
• An intrusion prevention system (IPS - Intrusion prevention system) is a network security tool (can be a hardware device or software) that continuously monitors malicious activity on the network and takes measures to prevent it. In particular, it generates reports, blocks or disables malicious actions if they actually occur.
• IPS has more capabilities than the Intrusion Detection System (IDS), which simply detects malicious activity, but cannot take any action to eliminate it, except notifying the administrator. Intrusion prevention systems are sometimes part of a new generation Firewall (NGFW) or a comprehensive threat management Solution (UTM). Like many network security technologies, they need to be powerful enough to scan a large volume of traffic without compromising network performance.
