Under the Kraken banner: Kraken successfully carries out licensing in the Netherlands
The Kraken cryptocurrency exchange, known in the field of digital assets, is expanding its presence in Europe by obtaining a license for a virtual asset service provider (VASP) from the Central Bank of the Netherlands (De Nederlandsche Bank, DNB). This step opens up new opportunities for the American company to offer its services to retail customers and professional traders in one of the most progressive European markets.
With this license, customers from the Netherlands will be able to use Kraken's services for transactions with about 200 digital assets, which greatly facilitates interaction with the growing list of cryptocurrencies offered by the exchange. This expansion of offers is supported by the presence of a high level of public involvement in the crypto industry in the country: approximately 20% of Dutch residents already own some kind of digital asset.
Kraken's Managing Director for Europe, Brian Gahan, stressed the importance of this step for the company: "Registering Kraken as a licensed VASP in the Netherlands allows us to deepen and expand our growth strategy in Europe. We see promising opportunities to offer our services to a wide range of consumers, from individuals to experienced investors."
In addition, it is worth noting that Kraken previously showed an independent position by refusing to comply with court requirements to provide data to customers trading Ripple (XRP) cryptocurrency, which attracted attention from regulators and interest from the crypto community.
This step by Kraken indicates the company's desire to actively participate in the development of the digital asset market, adapting to the regulatory requirements of various countries and expanding into strategically important regions.
