Kraken absorbed the Solaris darknet platform after the latter was hacked.
Currently, the Tor Solaris website redirects users to Kraken.
Solaris appeared a few months ago after the fall of Hydra in the hope of capturing part of its market. Admins managed to get about 25% of clients and turn over $150,000,000 in transactions.
At the beginning of the year, a Resecurity report on new drug trafficking markets claimed that Solaris attracted up to 60,000 new leads after the closure of Hydra, while Kraken was able to get only about 10% of this number.
As it turned out, in December 2022, Solaris hacked and leaked the source code and databases, presumably related to the darkmarket.
However, on Friday, January 13, 2023, Kraken announced the takeover of the Solaris infrastructure, GitLab repositories and all the source codes of the project due to several serious errors in the code.
Kraken's statement claims that it took them three days to steal passwords and keys stored on Solaris servers, gain access to its infrastructure located in Finland, and then exfiltrate almost all the information.
In addition, the hackers claimed to have disabled the Solaris BTC server, which is also confirmed by Elliptic's observations.
At the moment, none of the Solaris core team has made any statements about the status of the platform and the validity of Kraken's statements, which as a result was able to squeeze the audience of the platform.
