A fairly indicative practice has been formed to resolve violations in the field of confidentiality.
Facebook (recognized as extremist, *important note in accordance with the requirements of the Order of the FSB of Russia No. 547) agreed to pay $ 725 million to settle a lawsuit in which the social network was accused of allowing third parties, including Cambridge Analytica, to access users' personal data.
Despite agreeing to pay the largest settlement ever reached in a data privacy class action and the largest amount Facebook has ever paid to settle a private class action, the company has never admitted any wrongdoing under the settlement agreement.
In August, it was reported that Facebook had reached a preliminary agreement, although the amount and terms of the settlement were not disclosed. The representatives argue their agreement with solidarity with the interests of the community and shareholders.
The proposed settlement agreement may be approved in the near future by a federal judge in the U.S. District Court office in San Francisco.
The lawsuit was initiated in 2018 when Facebook users accused the social network of violating privacy rules by sharing their data with third parties, including the British firm Cambridge Analytica.
The lawsuit alleges that the company actually provided unlimited access to the personal data of about 87 million Facebook users without their explicit consent.
Netflix even shot a whole movie "Cambridge Analytica. Scandalous hacking", we recommend watching at your leisure.
Since then, Facebook has closed access to its data to thousands of applications suspected of abusing them, limited the amount of information available to developers, and made it easier for users to set up restrictions on the exchange of personal data.
Thus, in total, Facebook will lose almost 6 billion for this case, of which 5 were recovered from the company earlier in 2019 as a fine for deceiving users on privacy issues, and in addition to 725 million, the plaintiffs also plan to ask the judge to award them up to 25% of the settlement agreement as attorney fees, which will be approximately $181 million.
