In Argentina, it was proposed to use excess gas from oil fields for mining BTC
Argentine presidential candidate Sergio Massa said that it is possible to use excess natural gas from the Vaca Muerta oil fields to extract bitcoin.
The idea was presented by Sergio Massa (Sergio Mazza) scientist Santiago Siri. The concept involves using excess gas from Vaca Muerta for mining. Supporters of the initiative say that this will allow the gas to be used usefully, rather than burned or released into the atmosphere.
The proposal was met with skepticism from the miners. At a recent online forum organized by the non-governmental organization Bitcoin Argentina, participants argued that BTC mining is too complex and competitive for the government to interfere in it.
But the project also has supporters. For example, Jose Maria Sarasola, CEO of Cryptogranjas startup, which is engaged in bitcoin mining in Vaca Muerta, noted:
