Game designer Peter Molyneux, who sold $52 million worth of non-interchangeable tokens, recalled the need to regulate the NFT market
English video game developer Peter Molyneux called for regulating the market of non-interchangeable tokens (NFT). He stated this in an interview with Gamereactor. According to the game designer, so far the technology of digital collections generates too much toxicity in the gaming industry.
"It [the NFT market] needs some kind of regulation, but I like the idea of [non-interchangeable tokens]. Why don't people add something when they play the game?" he said.
The English video game developer did not specify what kind of regulation he was talking about. Despite calls to bring NFT under regulation, the English game designer sees the future in NFT technology. He admitted that the gaming industry will need time to find the right application of non-interchangeable tokens in video games.
Caring about regulation, Molyneux has already managed to capitalize on the hype around the NFT. Back in December 2021, the Rock Paper Shotgun edition found out that Molyneux's NFT video game called Legacy was able to sell virtual plots for $52 million. At that time, the most expensive NFT site cost the buyer $902,000.
Legacy is a game simulator created by the British studio 22cans. In the game, you can build your virtual business, as well as design and sell in-game items. Each piece of in-game land varies in characteristics such as uniqueness and size. The unit of calculation in Legacy is an ERC-20 standard token called legacycoin (LEGACY). Players can earn currency through in-game events.
The British game studio 22cans was founded by Peter Molyneux in February 2012. The founder of the company is known for cult video games like Dungeon Keeper and the Fable series. Molyneux is also the creator of the mobile game Godus.
Earlier, the editors of BeInCrypto wrote that the game designer of computer games SimCity, The Sims and Spore, William Wright, is also working on a project based on blockchain technology. For a new video game called Proxi, Wright's company Gallium Studios has entered into cooperation with the Forte Labs blockchain platform. In addition to the blockchain, the game being developed also supports artificial intelligence technology.
