The Chinese have created a liquid metal robot that can get out of the cage, like the terminator T-1000π€ The new robots can transition from a solid state to a liquid state, which allows them to jump, scramble and even flow out of the cage. βπ»The machines are made of gallium metal, in which tiny magnetic microparticles are embedded. The shape and movements of the machines are controlled by magnetic fields. Such a design combines high mechanical strength, load capacity and high speed of movement of the solid phase with "excellent morphological adaptability (elongation, splitting and fusion) in the liquid phase" β note the creators from Sun Yat-sen University and Zhejiang University in China. With the help of this technique, researchers were able to make robots solder chains, form a universal screw from themselves, extract objects from a manikin stomach and overcome obstacle courses.π Go back |
