An extensible open source automation tool from Microsoft, consisting of a shell with a command-line interface and an accompanying scripting language. The language was first publicly demonstrated at a Professional Developer Conference in September 2003, codenamed Monad. Initially, the tool was released as a Windows component called Windows PowerShell. The open source code was released with the start of PowerShell Core development in August 2016.
