What is a subnet? |
What is a subnet? • In one sense, a network is a group of devices under one control that can communicate with each other. Network also means a range of IP addresses - allocated or received from the registrar — for a specific physical network. For example, the selected private range is 10.0.0.0/8 or the range of external addresses received from the registrar is 192.0.2.0/24. • So that the networks do not intersect with each other, for convenience and separation of access, the network is divided into segments. • A subnet, in addition to a smaller physical segment of a large network, also means a smaller address range created by dividing a larger network into equal disjoint parts. The subnet size is determined by the subnet mask Go back |
